Welcome...
The word welcome is used four times in today’s Gospel reading .
When we welcome in Jesus‘ name we welcome Jesus himself - the challenge is there.
We watch and listen to the unfolding of the Refugee crisis.
Even though we have needs in our country we have a sense that we should reach out in compassion .
Next weekends basket collection will be put into a fund to help out first of all locally if a family of refugees  comes to live among us or if not towards
helping out in the bigger picture of things.
You can use your weekly envelope or there are some envelopes available at the door. Also Bishop Kevin has requested that if there are any vacant and available properties we might let him know.
There are forms available at the door if you know of any such property.

Closer to Home
‘But you, who do you say I am?’ There is a force, a directness to this question which is addressed to each of us personally. We each have to work out the answer for ourselves.
Our response needs to be as personal as our relationship with Him.
Anyone can report back what others say, answering this question however, requires a disciple.
In the same way, while it may be easy to look at others and ridicule their religion, we instinctively know it’s not about what others do and say. It’s about what YOU do and say that counts. Unless we have matters straight in our own hearts about the identity of this Jesus, nothing else matters.
In time of tragedy, you are the still centre of our being.
In time of joy, you are the wine of abundance and rejoicing.
In time of adversity, you are by my side.
In time of suffering, when we stumble on and do not understand, you teach us to trust. (Archbishop Oscar Romero).
‘Christianity is not a collection of truths to be believed, of laws to be obeyed.. Christianity is a person,, Christianity is Christ.’ (Fr. Tom Cox)

Acceptance - Don’t Make Distinctions

Jesus knows that people shrink back under indifference,
are wounded by prejudice, are hurt when they are rejected.
Prejudice handicaps everyone it touches; it allows fear to dress up as social and religious propriety; it sneaks its way into our laws.
It is a killer disease.
It is always good to remember that whoever we meet,
God has first loved them. So let us be challenged by the words of wisdom:
Our first task in approaching another people,
another culture, another religion is to take off our shoes
for the place we are approaching is holy.
Else we may find ourselves treading on another’s dream.
More serious still, we may forget that God was there before our
arrival.
(Denis McBride)

Liturgy Group – Work in Progress
A parish Liturgy group has recently been set up.

It comprises sixteen people:  The purpose of this group is to look into all aspects of the celebration of liturgy. In doing so to consider various forms of active participation and offer opportunities for a greater sense of engagement for the parish community. The group is currently organising for the recruiting and training of 'Cantors' and looking for ways and means of establishing a new choir. Our first priority is to address the situation of music in the Sunday Masses. There are two strands to this: firstly to encourage the congregation to participate in singing some of the familiar responses. This will happen through the introduction of 'Cantors' to lead the congregational responses. Secondly we are addressing the need to form a choir. For both of these we need singers and musicians.  For all these areas we are asking for volunteers. If you feel you could offer your services in any of these areas or if you need more information please contact any member of the group.
